For the first time ever, two women officiated an NBA game this week, and they happen to be black!
The milestone was achieved Tuesday when “The Undefeated” reporter Marc J. Spears tweeted a picture of the referees Danielle Scott and Angelica Suffren. They were officiating a game between the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat during the NBA’s California Classic Summer League.
The NBA confirmed that the women were the first to ever referee a game together. The first woman to officiate an NBA game was Violet Palmer in 1997. Palmer retired in 2016.
We’re always here for some black girl magic! Congrats to these two refs for breaking down a barrier!
