#Roommates, an oldie but goodie is finally set to make its return to compete once again in the smartphone arena! It has just been announced that BlackBerry is reportedly returning in early 2021 thanks to a new tech start-up company.
If you were #TeamBlackBerry back in the day and always hoped that it would one day make a comeback…you’re in luck. According to @Complex, once-popular smartphone BlackBerry is gearing up for a return in a major way. Tech start-up company OnwardMobility recently confirmed its plans to release a new version of the BlackBerry next year.
While the revamped version of the BlackBerry won’t look exactly the same, it will have 5G capability and its legendary QWERTY physical keyboard. OnwardMobility plans to debut the phone at some point during the first half of 2021—although an official date has yet to be announced.
John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry, expressed his excitement at the product’s return:
“BlackBerry is thrilled OnwardMobility will deliver a BlackBerry 5G smartphone device with physical keyboard leveraging our high standards of trust and security synonymous with our brand. We are excited that customers will experience the enterprise and government level security and mobile productivity the new BlackBerry 5G smartphone will offer.”
Long before the iPhone became the most popular cellphone in the world, BlackBerry was the must have product for all of your communication needs. However, as phones became more evolved and advanced, it fell out of favor with consumers and eventually faded away.
There was an attempt to revive the brand by TCL Communication, who was set to produce, design, and sell a new iteration of it, but the partnership later ended back in February.
