First and foremost, our current Miss America, Nia Franklin, is a black woman. Now, our Miss Teen USA is also serving Black Girl Magic vibes!
18-year-old Kaliegh Garris won Miss Teen USA Sunday evening on behalf of Connecticut. She beat her runner-up, Kaitlyn Vogel who was representing North Dakota.
Not only did Kaliegh win, but sis walked that stage rocking her natural coils! This is major as society likes to uphold a certain standard of “beauty”—especially in pageants.
Kaliegh, who is currently in high school, will probably inspire a lot of young girls to also rock their natural kinks by doing this.
In addition to wearing her confidence, Kaliegh is a theater student at ACES ECA. She also founded an organization called We Are People 1st, that assists people with disabilities.
After she graduates high school, Kaliegh wants to be a trauma nurse. She plans on attending Southern Connecticut State University’s nursing program.
She’s well on her way as she’s already volunteering at Yale New Haven Hospital!
Congrats again to Kaliegh, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors!
