The Louvre Museum in Paris is already one of the most visited museums in the worlds. However, the Carter’s were able to help break the ticket office records following the success of their “Apesh*t,” music video.
According to The Guardian, 10.2 million people who visited the museum in 2018 marked a 25% rise in visitors, beating out the museum’s previous record of 9.7 million visitors in 2012.
The rise in visitors were due in part to the international tourists returning to Paris after a large number kept their distance following the 2015 terrorist attacks.
The success of the “Apesh*t” video was able to help the museum maintain a high number of young visitors, with 50% of visitors being under the age of 50. With the video being viewed more than 150 million times, it led the museum to create a special visitors guide based on the music video.
Jean-Luc Martinez, the museum’s director, told French radio, “It’s clear that 2018 was a remarkable year for the international reputation of the Louvre. The Beyoncé video, like the opening of the Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi, ensured that the Louvre was talked about across the world, and one of the consequences of that is the spectacular rise in visitor numbers last year.”
According to the site, the success of the museum in 2018 was also credited to the major exhibitions.
This year, the museum is hoping to continue capturing the interest of young visitors by adding free night time visits on the first Saturday of the month.
If you all remember, Beyoncé and Jay-Z released their “Apesh*t” video last summer when they surprisingly dropped their joint alum “Everything Is Love.”
