The Carter’s will be honored later this month at GLAAD’s annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles.
According to Billboard, Beyoncé and Jay-Z are set to receive the Vanguard Award, which is one of the two prestigious awards to be presented. The award has historically been given to “LGBTQ allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.”
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement, “When Beyoncé and JAY-Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBTQ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear. We could not be prouder to stand with them to send a message of love during the biggest LGBTQ event in the world and to honor their work to bend the arc of justice forward for LGBTQ people, people of color, and marginalized communities everywhere.”
Past recipients of the Vanguard Award include Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Cher and Demi Lovato.
Last year, Jay-Z was honored with the GLAAD Special Recognition Award along with his mother, Gloria Carter. He was honored for his song “Smile” off of his 13th solo album “4:44.” The song touched on his mother’s sexuality, where she can be heard delivering important messages such as, “Love who you love, because life isn’t guaranteed.”
The GLAAD Media Awards take place on March 28th in Los Angeles.
