Roommates, we are sending our deepest condolences to the family of legendary Soul and R&B singer Betty Wright.
On Sunday, her family confirmed that she passed away. An official cause of death was not revealed, however, the family released a statement, and thanked everyone for their love and support.
In the official statement, her family said, “We know that there are so many people that have been impacted by her life, love, and light; and may want to share in the remembering of her. Out of respect for the family, we would like to keep this solemn time of bereavement and loss private.”
On May 2nd, Chaka Khan took to social media and asked everyone to keep Betty Wright in their prayers. She said, “Calling all my #PrayWarriors | My beloved sister, Betty Wright, is now in need of all your prays. “Que Sera, Sera | Whatever Will Be, Will Be.” In Jesus Name We Pray for Sister Betty. All My Love Chaka.”
Many other celebrities also shared their condolences following the news. DJ Khaled, who collaborated with Betty White on his 2016 album “Major Key,” spoke out about her passing and said,” I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! BETTY WRIGHT YOU ARE ANGEL! YOU ONE OF MY REALEST FRIENDS I HAVE! YOU ARE LIKE A MOM TO ME! YOU HAD MY BACK FROM THE VERY BEGINNING! WE MADE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TOGETHER! BETTY WRIGHT IS A ICON! And THE MOTHER OF MIAMI! BETTY WRIGHT IS LEGENDARY! GOD LOVES YOU! LONG LIVE BETTY WRIGHT! I LOVE YOU FOREVER!”
Kelly Rowland also spoke out and said, “Rest In Peace to the woman who gave us ultimate soul and meant EVERY WORD. When she sang, Betty Wright!! My condolences to her family! I am praying for you all during this time!”
