Last night the 2016 BET Awards went down and there were tons of moments that had everyone talking. From phenomenal speeches, amazing performances and some of the worst and best looks of the night.
Here are the top 5 moments of the 2016 BET Awards:
Jesse Williams
1: It’s easy to agree that the top moment of the night went to Jesse Williams. The actor/ activist accepted the Humanitarian Award last night. Upon accepting his award he gave an outstanding speech about African Americans in America and our daily harsh realities. His words definitely opened up the minds of many and made us realize a change in our communities needs to come.
Prince Tributes
2: Although the evening was spent celebrating some of the hottest artists on the charts, BET made sure to honor the memory of the legendary Prince. They had tributes from artist such as Eyrkah Badu, Bilal, Janelle Monae, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder and a host of many others. However, Sheila E killed the final tribute towards the end of the show. They were definitely out to show Billboard how a real Prince tribute was done. Oop!
Beyoncé’s Performance
3: Queen Bey showed up to this years award show and surprised us all. Although she’s currently on her Formation World Tour, she came through and put on an electrifying performance of “Freedom”. Kendrick Lamar joined his collaborator on the stage filled with fire and water. Unfortunately, Queen Bey had to hop on a plane to London right after her performance but her mom Tina Lawson was there to accept her awards for Video of the Year and People’s Choice!
Samuel Jackson Lifetime Achievement
4: Samuel Jackson won last night’s Lifetime Achivement award, and it made us all realize that he’s definitely one of the GOAT’s when it comes to film. With multiple films throughout the years, he made sure to thank his family for helpinh him get his start in the industry.
Desiigner’s Performance
5: With all of the performances that went down last night everyone had their favorite. However, the one performance that had everyone talking would have to be Desiigner’s performing “Panda”. He definitely had the audience turnt, but a moment between him and Fabolous created tons of memes that took over social media.
