If you remember, back in December when we reported to you guys that BET had just taken over VH1 Soul and made it BET Soul? Well, it appears as though the cable network entity is coming for somebody, because yesterday, BET announced that they acquired Soul Train!
It’s great that BET is making black music and black culture a priority. They report, “BET Networks is honored to have acquired a brand with such a rich history and unique content that is forever relevant to all segments of our audience,” Richard Gay, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Operations at BET Networks said in a statement. He also says that there is a Broadway play as well as a concert tour in the works, so they are looking forward to, “finding engaging and smart ways to grow the brand while preserving its heritage and legacy in music, dance and fashion.”
The network revamped the Soul Train Awards back in 2009 and with last year’s show being a huge success with Erykah Badu as the host, we’re certain that this was a great move on their part!
