Chile, the ‘Karens,’ and ‘Kens‘ don’t get tired. The harassment happens worldwide. We’ve seen BBQ Becky, who called the police on a Black family BBQ’n in Oakland. Permit Patty, who called the police on a young Black girl in San Francisco, and unfortunately, we have another one to add to the list.
A Black family located an hour away from Oakland in Discovery Bay had a run-in with their neighbor who told them that they needed to “stop acting Black” in their “white neighborhood” while toting a stun gun and holding her dog. The incident, which was caught on a home security camera by the Jones family, has gone viral. Gerritt Jones and his family have lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and claim they’ve never had any issues with their elderly neighbor Adana Dean prior to this moment. In the video, Adana approaches Gerritt’s home, and falsely claims that their pitbull attacked her dog. However, Adana was seen petting the dog earlier in the surveillance video.
Gerritt advised Adana that everything was on tape, shut down her claims, and asked her several times to get off his property. Adana threatened to call the cops on him and continued saying that he was being nasty and said, “You know what, you’re a Black person in a white neighborhood, and you’re acting like one. Why don’t you act like a white person in a white neighborhood?” Gerrit said, when she was told that she was being recorded, she replied, “I don’t give a s**t.”
Gerritt spoke to ABC7news and said that he had experienced racism before but never expected it to happen in this way. He says this is a learning experience for his whole family, especially his son. This is why Gerrit found it so necessary to speak out.
Dion Lim from ABC7news went to Adana’s home to speak with her on the incidents but was greeted by her husband. He acknowledged his wife’s inappropriate actions and didn’t want to comment. He claimed it was a “minor incident.”
