Whew! Now we’ve seen a lot of weird things go down in a courtroom, Roomies, but Cuba Gooding Jr’s lawyer just might take the cake. Cuba has been fighting numerous sexual assault allegations, and his legal help has presented an interesting argument about women’s negative feelings about their bodies.
According to TMZ, Cuba and his lawyer, Peter Toumbekis, appeared in a Manhattan courthouse on Thursday for a preliminary hearing for his trial. While presenting their argument, Toumbekis reportedly raised the idea that a woman’s insecurity about having small breasts can directly impact how she views reality, especially in relation to sexual assault.
Toumbekis reportedly used one of Gooding’s accusers blog posts as evidence, where she spoke about women’s self-esteem and body issues. While there was no jury present during the hearing, TMZ notes that connecting a sexual assault victim’s mental state to the size of her breasts could be seen as victim shaming in front of a jury.
Cuba had no comment about what his attorney had said.
As we previously reported, Cuba was accused of sexual assault by about 7 women back in October, and that number has grown substantially, to at least 22! Cuba pled not guilty to 6 sexual abuse charges at the time. One of the victims, Natasha Ashworth, alleges that Cuba pinched her butt while we walked past her at TAO in NYC back in October 2018.
Another woman alleges that Cuba groped her thigh and breast while at the Magic Hour Rooftop Lounge in NYC in June 2019.
While there has been video footage to support the claims of these women, Cuba’s legal team insists that he respects women, and has “never acted inappropriately toward them.”
Cuba is currently awaiting trial, but with his legal team, things might get a little weird, Roomies.
