Moments ago Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts for the death of George Floyd. While many erupted into tears of joy, gratitude, and an ounce of solace, Attorney Ben Crump took to his Instagram account with a heartfelt message.
In part, Crump stated, “Today history was made. We’re finally starting to, as a country live up to equal justice under the law for all people under the law. We don’t take this lightly. It was sacrificial blood that made this moment possible for history in America.”
Crump was also vocal about the other victims of police brutality.
“Let us all rejoice in this moment, but know we still have work to do. We now go to Daunte Wright. We go back to Breonna Tyalor. We go to Pamela Turner. We go to Anthony McClain. We go to Jacob Blake Jr. We go to Rayshard Brooks. We go back to Eric Garner. We go to all those brothers and sisters who we saw with our own eyes be killed unjustly. We now have a precedent in Geroge Perry Flord, Jr.”
Crump ended by encouraging us to stand together.
“Black people represent. Let’s stand up for each other. Let’s stand up for justice.”
As you know, Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis officer who kneeled on George Floyd’s neck for nearly 10 minutes, has been found guilty on all counts.
The jury in the trial deliberated for 10 hours, returning a verdict for three counts: Guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
Derek Chauvin looked shook as he was cuffed and dragged back to jail, where he was remanded as he waits at least eight weeks until sentencing.
