President-elect Joe Biden is preparing to take office and building his team. While Keisha Lance Bottoms supported Biden early on, she has respectfully declined an offer to join the Biden Cabinet.
According to WSB-TV, Bottom’s Senior Advisor Rashad Taylor stated she turned down an offer to be part of the Biden Cabinet, “Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined,” the statement said.
It went on to say that Bottom’s focus is the city of Atlanta, “The Mayor’s focus remains on the people of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia. Out of respect for the process, and the other candidates under consideration, no additional comment will be forthcoming on this matter at this time.”
Bottoms endorsed Biden in 2019 and stated, “I think that this is not a conventional year,” she said at a Democratic presidential debate in Atlanta in November. “In a conventional year, you wait. And you lick your finger and you stick it up, you see which way the wind is blowing. We don’t have time for that this year.”
Bottoms is a Delta and Harris is an AKA, while the two won’t be working together directly, I’m sure they’ll still keep that Divine 9 unity.
Earlier this year, Bottoms tested positive for COVID-19.
Just hours after giving a press conference, Bottoms tweeted, “COVID-19 has literally hit home. I have had NO symptoms and have tested positive.” CNN also reported that Bottoms’ husband tested positive for coronavirus as well.
Bottoms was also against the state of Georgia reopening, at the time that it did, and Bottoms was also very adamant about social distancing.
It’s clear that she’s committed to the growth of Atlanta.
