Roommates, while events, school and even work are being cancelled left and right in response to the coronavirus outbreak, y’all have brought up some great points about cancelling financial obligations too. Well, Atlanta mayor Keisha Bottoms is taking steps to make that happen!
Cancelling work does not cancel the bills, chile, but an executive order signed by Mayor Bottoms is making sure all residents and businesses have access to running water for the next 60 days. In a tweet, Mayor Bottoms says disconnecting water service is not an option, regardless of anyone’s ability to pay their bill.
“The health and wellbeing of Atlanta residents is at the forefront of everything we do as a city,” Mayor Bottoms said in a news release. “Access to water is paramount in the prevention of COVID-19 or any infectious health threat and no one should be deprived of this fundamental resource because of an inability to pay.”
And while the city works to combat the virus, it is important that every resident has access to clean, running water to keep themselves and their spaces cleaned and sanitized. The executive order has gone into effect immediately.
I have signed an executive Order halting the disconnection of water service for our customers over the next 60 days. As we work to curtail the spread of the Cornavirus, it is important that all residents and businesses have access to running water.

The Mayor is also working to allocate funds to combat the virus in Atlanta, wherever they may be needed. Immediately following the need for water, Mayor Bottoms’ concern is ensuring the city can deliver any daily services and operations without interruption.
Back in February, the mayor created a coronavirus pandemic task force to prepare a strategic plan to limit the impact of the coronavirus on the city. As of now, the city has seen minimal coronavirus cases, and Mayor Bottoms is working to keep it that way.
