Ashanti is officially a mother of one! The singer recently confirmed she welcomed her first child with Nelly while showing off her postpartum body.
Additionally, Shanti spoke with PEOPLE about her son’s arrival date and name. These updates come amid social media users questioning Ashanti’s pregnancy status in the last few weeks, particularly following her baby shower in early July.
In a selfie video posted on Instagram, a glowing Ashanti is seen dressed in a white crop top, an oversized blue flannel, and grey shorts. Furthermore, the new mommy sported long cornrows. She began her update with a smile, confirming she’s now been in the newborn stage for four weeks! PEOPLE reports that Ashanti’s baby arrived on July 18, 2024.
“Four weeks postpartum, you have no idea what this body can do,” the singer said, panning the camera from her face to her upper thigh and back.
Additionally, Shanti shared a full-body mirror selfie in the same outfit. In her accompanying caption, she expressed her pride in her body and teased her new experience by referencing some of her classic hits!
“Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time…lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby!”
Postpartum body aside, a rep for the married couple spoke with PEOPLE about their new chapter. For context, the first time the public learned of the couple’s marriage was in June, but records asserted that they tied the knot on December 27, 2023.
Jumping back to their mini-me, Nelly and Shanti welcomed a son in July, whom they named Kareem Kenkaide Hayes. The rep revealed that the parents are “proud” and “so in with KK.”
For now, there’s been no first glimpses at Kareem, and it’s unclear how long the couple plans to keep their little one off of the ‘gram.
Unlike his wife, Nelly has yet to comment on his son’s birth via his social media accounts. In addition to Kareem, the singer is also a dad to two biological children and assumed the same role for his niece and nephew after his sister passed away in 2005 from leukemia.
