Nearly two years after the rap turned business mogul performed his song “Picasso Baby” in a gallery in Chelsea, NY, artist Marina Abramović says they had a business deal when it came to the project and he has yet to fulfill his end!
Abramović tells Spike Magazine she agreed to appear in the video but on certain conditions. “He came to my office and I gave him an entire PowerPoint presentation and said, ‘Okay, you can help me, because I really need help to build this thing. Then he just completely used me. And that wasn’t fair. This is very different from Lady Gaga, for example, who has done great work for me. Just by having 45 million followers, she brought all these young kids into my public.”
In other words, the artist spent time in giving ideas to Jay Z on how he would help out her art institute in order for her to allow him to use her work and her in his “Picasso Baby” video. She showed up when it time for the cameras but unfortunately for her, Jay Z never showed up for her.
“He came to my office and I gave him an entire PowerPoint presentation and said, ‘Okay, you can help me, because I really need help to build this thing,'” continued the artist, who has previously worked with stars such as Lady Gaga in support of her Marina Abramovic Institute. “Then he just completely used me. And that wasn’t fair. This is very different from Lady Gaga, for example, who has done great work for me. Just by having 45 million followers, she brought all these young kids into my public.”
She does go on to say she was very stupid in entering such a deal and will never do it again. “I didn’t feel much. There are hundreds of people adapting my work. I have young pop groups who adapt my work… And in the end it was only a one-way transaction. I will never do it again, that I can say. Never. I was really naive in this kind of world. It was really new to me, and I had no idea that this would happen. It’s so cruel, it’s incredible. I will stay away from it for sure.”
But on the contrary, the rap artist did put her work and face in his video which contributed to advertisement for her but we guess she was looking for something more tangible like coins! The question is who is wrong or right in the situation ? Let’s chat below !

We don’t know the specifics of the agreement so its kind of hard to say who was wrong. It seems as though legally jay did nothing wrong so that’s all that matters I guess. If she was looking for something more she should have put it in a contractual agreement and made him sign that sh!t. I feel like now she is just playing victim because she expected something more but this woman owns a art institute so she’s not that naive. Business is business no matter what industry you are in. You should know to put all expectations in a contract.
