Last night some of the industry’s hottest artists were in attendance at the 2019 Soul Train Awards. One of those artists being Ari Lennox, who was not only nominated but also had the opportunity to present on stage.
On Monday, Ari took to her Twitter account to reflect on her debut album “Shea Butter Baby,” after not walking away with an award. She said, “Shea Butter Baby will always be special. I made a soul album for black people. I made my album for black people lol.”
She continued, “But I don’t understand. At all actually. But cool. I want this sh*t way more than it wants me. I’m learning I have to stop caring. Yea I’m hurt. I’m not built for these things.”
Ari was nominated for Best R&B/ Soul Female Artist, but that award went to H.E.R. She was also nominated for Album/ Mixtape of the Year, but that award went to Lizzo, and she was nominated for Best Collaboration with J. Cole, however that award went to Chris Brown and Drake for “No Guidance.”
Ari released her debut album “Shea Butter Baby,” back in May of this year, and the singles to be released from the project were the title track, which also appeared on the soundtrack for the 2018 film “Creed II,” and also “Up Late,” “Whipped Cream,” and “BMO.”
We are sending all of the love and support to Ari Lennox and encouraging her to continue to push through and make those amazing hit records.
