Is it safe to say that a biopic on the legendary “Queen of Soul”, Aretha Franklin, is way overdue? With biopics being one of the most popular genres of films lately, it’s only right that we get to see the “Respect” singers story on the big screen.
Recently at her 74th birthday party in New York City, Franklin told the Associated Press that the deal for her long-anticipated biopic is basically done. She said, “Good news, we’re ready to sign for the movie. We’ve agreed on all the key points. There’s very little left now to negotiate, very little. They have given me creative control, and that’s all I wanted.”
She has been working with “Straight Outta Compton” producer Scott Bernstein to make the film actually happen.
Now the next big question is, who’s good enough to play the “Queen of Soul”? We all know the casting in some of these films can be a little suspect. Nonetheless, Franklin said, “I’ve talked to the person that is going to play me. I’m not going to say who I chose, but I’ve talked to her and she’s ready and I’m happy with her.”
Are you guys looking forward to an Aretha Franklin biopic?
