Anti-abortion Republican senatorial candidate Herschel Walker allegedly urged the mother of his child to get an abortion during a separate pregnancy, after the NFL legend initially tried to deny he knew who the woman in question was.
The mother of Walker’s child, who has not yet been named over privacy and safety concerns, revealed that he was in full-support of her getting an abortion when the child from another pregnancy was his, according to a bombshell report by The Daily Beast.
On Wednesday, Walker attempted to categorically deny the story, and said he didn’t know who was making this allegation in an interview Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, who asked Walker whether he had figured out the woman’s identity based on details in the original report.
“Not at all,” Walker replied. “And that’s what I hope everyone can see. It’s sort of like everyone is anonymous, or everyone is leaking, and they want you to confess to something you have no clue about.”
The 60-year-old then tried to spin the report as a politically-motivated attack from “desperate” Democrats, intent on maintaining control of the crucial Georgia Senate seat he’s currently vying for.
He added he was “energized” by the report, which portrays him as hypocritical, and remains undeterred in his quest for candidacy.
“They see me as a big threat, and I know that and I knew it when I got into this race. But they don’t realize that I think they came for the wrong one. They energized me,” Walker said. “They energized me, because I know how they really want to try to keep this seat.”
The woman in question called Herschel’s defense ridiculous and said she was “stunned” at his response, but also not totally shocked, adding he may have “really forget about it,” but “that says something (about him), too.”
“Sure, I was stunned, but I guess it also doesn’t shock me, that maybe there are just so many of us that he truly doesn’t remember,” she said. “But then again, if he really forgot about it, that says something, too.”
The Daily Beast reports that the woman is a registered Democrat who continued a years-long relationship with Walker even after the abortion.
She told the outlet that her main concerns with revealing her identity was that she is the mother to one of Walker’s children, and intended on protecting her family’s privacy while at the same time speaking her truth.
Walker has publicly acknowledged that the child is his, and the woman provided enough credible evidence to The Daily Beast to prove she is the child’s mother, according to the outlet.
Walker and his campaign reportedly declined to comment on The Daily Beast’s article.
One of Walker’s three sons, conservative social media influencer Christian Walker, has since released a series of videos and statements calling his father a liar, and even claimed the University of Georgia football star and legendary NFL running back had threatened to murder him and his mother – Walker’s ex-wife.
He said his dad was “not a family man” and had “us move over six times in six months running from your violence.”
“I know my mom and I would really appreciate if my father Herschel Walker stopped lying and making a mockery of us,” Christian Walker tweeted after the abortion story broke Monday night. “You’re not a ‘family man’ when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence.”
Meanwhile, the anonymous woman cited in The Daily Beast’s report said she has remained a “good sport” about Herschel’s senatorial campaign, but added she could no longer keep quiet about this issue.
“I’ve been very civil thus far. I keep my mouth shut. I don’t cause any trouble. I stay in the background. But I’m also not gonna get run over time and time again,” she said. “That’s crazy.”
Walker and his campaign team have offered conflicting explanations for the damning report, at first calling it a “lie” before appealing to a sense of forgiveness and religious redemption.
Walker put out a new ad on Wednesday where he revealed his struggles with mental health, “by the grace of God,” he added.
In a June interview with The Daily Beast, Walker lied about his role in abortions, and was caught doing the same again when speaking on video to a Democratic activist posing as one of his supporters.
