Angela Simmons is doubling down on her apology for her pistol-shaped purse at the BET Awards. On Sunday (June 30), Angela went viral for her red carpet-accessory and the poses she struck with it!
She issued her second apology as a written statement less than 24 hours after addressing it on video the night of the show. As previously reported, Angela stunned in a Casze Atelier peacock-inspired gown that accentuated her curves! Her hair was swept into a partial updo. The makeup beat was beatING!
But what stood out about Angela Simmons’s reactions to the red carpet was her bejeweled, pistol-shaped purse. Additionally, she posed on the carpet and backstage at the BET Awards with the accessory-inspired “cringe” talks.
“When I chose the purse, I believed it was cute and unique, and I made a poor decision in using it as an accessory to amplify my beauty. I deeply regret that this item, which symbolizes a gun, was inappropriate and insensitive, especially given my personal and community experiences with gun violence,” Angela Simmons said in her statement apology.
In the follow-up paragraph, Angela spoke about exemplifying “peace, unification, and the resolution to gun violence in America” her entire life. She acknowledged the criticisms that pointed out her personal proximity to gun violence.
“I have personally lost my partner, the father of my child, to gun violence, and I have witnessed its devastating impact on my community in Southeast Queens,” Angela added, emphasizing her partnership with activist Erica Ford and her own organization’s efforts to curb gun violence.
“I ask for your understanding and forgiveness, and I hope you can accept my sincere apology. While this incident was a misstep, I will not allow it to define my moral compass or my commitment to promoting peace and ending gun violence,” she concluded.

Hours after Angela Simmons issued her second apology, her boyfriend, Yo Gotti, seemingly shared a supportive jokey joke. He took to Instagram Story, adding hearts, a laughing face, and pistol emojis to the statement, “She just practicing LOL,” he wrote.

As mentioned, Angela had already kinda-sorta explained herself on BET Awards night. She spoke from a vehicle on her Instagram Story, admitting that she’s “not like that, never been like that” and is non-violent.
“…I’ve obviously been through like a lot in my personal life when it comes to gun violence, and it’s very personal to me, but I just liked the bag. And I thought it was cool, and I thought it was a fashion moment. That was it,” Simmons shared. “I didn’t have any intentions of ruffling anyone’s feathers.”
