After ordering goods online, consumers expect to receive them at lightning speed. With new Amazon technology, it is seemingly a possibility with their new drone package delivery service.
According to FOX LA, the e-commerce company is testing out a drone delivery option in Lockehard, CA. The town was chosen because of its previous ties to aviation, the company announced on Monday. They will be the first to experience Prime Air deliveries.
California State Assemblyman Heath Flora stated:
Lockeford residents will soon have access to one of the world’s leading delivery innovations. It’s exciting that Amazon will be listening to the feedback of the San Joaquin County community to inform the future development of this technology.
This is how the process works:
A customer will place an order, and the drone will fly to their location, release the package in the backyard and leave.
It’s reported that the drone will be able to carry packages up to 5 pounds and 400 feet in the air, while flying up to 50 miles per hour.
Amazon also says that they’ve been working with the technology “so its drones will be able to operate at greater distances while safely avoiding other aircraft, people, pets, and other obstacles.”
At this time, no official launch date has been given. But the company does say the new delivery service will happen this year.
Roomies, what y’all think of this?
