Al Roker Returning To TV After Recovering From Blood Clots In Leg & Lungs

Following a two-month hiatus on account of heath complications, Al Roker—”America’s most trusted weatherman“—is set to return to Today later this week!

The announcement came on Tuesday, and Roker is slated to appear on Friday’s broadcast of the beloved NBC program.

Al Roker Was Absent From ‘Today’ Due To Blood Clot Complications

Back in November, the beloved television personality took to Instagram to share why he had been missing from the Today show. Specifically, he revealed that he was hospitalized over blood clots in one of his legs, which “sent some clots into [his] lungs.”

“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been. Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs. After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon.”

Various stars showered Roker in support beneath this upload, including Sunny Anderson, Hoda Kotb, and Holly Robinson Peete.

Al later provided an update to share that, after being discharged and later readmitted to the hospital, he was back home as of Dec. 8. Notably, his health complications caused him to miss covering the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time in 27 years.

A few days later, Roker made a virtual appearance on Today and let fans know that he appreciated the love and support, though he added that the situation has “been a tough slog.”

“It’s been a tough slog, I’m not going to deny this. This has been the hardest one yet—and you know, I’ve had my fair share of surgeries. But it gives you a profound sense of gratitude for this outpouring of prayers and thanks. I’m a very fortunate person.”

Al also shared that he was working on getting his strength back through physical therapy, and he’s feeling better by the day.

Thankfully, Al Roker will begin gracing television screens once again beginning January 6!

Al’s Coworkers Were Sure To Show Him Love During His Recovery

At this point, we should add that hosts, staff, and crew from Today made sure to bring the holiday spirit to Roker while he was still recovering at home.

A heartwarming video shows a plethora of employees making their way over to Al’s home, and they belted out Christmas carols to bring joy to their beloved coworker.

Shoutout to Al Roker, and we continue to wish him well!
