The city of Augusta is about to cut David Cunningham a nice check for $300,000 for any stress he endured after being locked up for 10 days without a reason.
According to The Root, this all started because of a simple Facebook friend request from a young lady he didn’t know.
The woman who he accepted on Facebook was involved in a Costco smash-and-grab, and she and the rest of the thieves got away with over $80,000 worth of stolen jewelry.
It was later revealed that she was the person who rented the get away car and when police questioned who she loaned the car to she said ‘’David.”
“David is a pretty common name so they went to her Facebook page, found everyone named David,” Cunningham’s attorney, James Radford, told the news station. “They found a black man who wears a lot of jewelry. So they jumped to the conclusion that must be him.”
Whats even more interesting is that police told him that they had his fingerprints from the crime scene and that he looked like one of the men from the security video. David said that he had never been to jail so there would be no way police would have his prints on file.
Unfortunately, that didn’t stop police from arresting him.
“They hrew tear gas over the gate, put guns in people’s faces,” Cunningham told FOX 61 news.
