Aaliyah’s Discography To Be Added To Spotify–‘One In A Million’ Drops August 20th

On Thursday, Spotify announced that it will stream Aaliyah’s discography starting August 20th with ‘One In A Million’ dropping first.

The rollout will consist of releasing her projects over the course of three months. “Romeo Must Die Soundtrack” will drop September 3rd, “Aaliyah” on September 10th, and “I Care 4 U” + “Ultimate Aaliyah” will be released on October 8th.

While Spotify made the announcement, it wasn’t immediately known if Apple Music or Tidal will stream the late singer’s catalog. But Blackground Records did insinuate that Aaliyah’s body of work will be available in other places.

The record label took to Instagram and wrote, “Aaliyah’s music will officially be available on all major digital streaming platforms + physical albums,” and continued to list the projects that fans can expect to receive.

This comes just a day after a website, “Aaliyah is Coming,” surfaced online, in which Aaliyah’s estate released a statement, in part that read,

“Protecting Aaliyah’s legacy is and will always be our focus. For 20 years we have battled behind the scenes. Enduring shadowy tactics of deception with unauthorized projects targeted to tarnish. We have been confused as to why there is such a tenacity in causing more pain alongside what we already have to cope with for the rest of our lives.”

As you know, Aaliyah’s uncle, Barry Hankerson, founder of Blackground Records, and other members of her family, have been at odds since her death in 2001. The conversation about releasing her music has lingered for 20 years, until now.

The release of Aaliyah’s music is happening just as Barry is reviving Blackground Records.

People seemed pretty excited about the news and stated, “We’re getting Aaliyah’s “One IN A MILLION” album on the 20th.”

Someone else added, “Finally! Also—I just got a record player and my new vice are records! Release the self-titled Aaliyah album on vinyl next.”

Another person said, “We can finally stop listening to Aaliyah musically illegally y’all.”

Roomies, are y’all excited about this?
