Roommates, may all of my Aaliyah fans step forward, I have some exciting news! The “Princess Of R&B,” Aaliyah will be honored with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas, later this month!
Earlier today, Aaliyah’s older brother Rashad Haughton, posted the news on his Instagram stating, ”We are proud to announce that #Aaliyah will be the next iconic star immortalized in wax at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas!” This announcement comes just a few weeks short of the 18th anniversary of the late singer’s death. This news also comes after several petitions and social media accounts were created, urging Madame Tussauds to create a wax figure celebrating Aaliyah’s life.
One of the petitions began, “Aaliyah is an icon in the entertainment industry. She lives on through her music, trendsetting looks and her fans.” Rashad even created a competition in celebration of his sister’s life, under the hashtag #ShowUsYourAaliyah. Fans of the singer will have the opportunity to showcase their best Aaliyah-inspired outfits in the hopes of winning the chance to attend the unveiling of the wax figure at Madame Tussaud’s in Vegas.
Interested contestants may begin the application process via the Aaliyah App, created by Rashad. Haughton created the app with the goal of keeping the “One In A Million” singer’s fans in the loop.
In the past, Madame Tussauds has created wax figures for the “Queen Bey” Beyonce, our forever President Barack Obama and Fenty Beauty First Lady, Rihanna.
Aaliyah passed away on August 25th, 2001 due to a plane crash on her way back to the U.S. from the Bahamas. The singer was filming a music video for her song “Rock The Boat” 18 years later, her spirit, swag and legacy continue to live on through the artists of today.
