A Reboot Of “Clueless” Is In The Works Focusing On The Character ‘Dionne’

And another one! The remake, reboot train continues to chug along and this time it surrounds one of the most beloved teen movies of all-time. Reportedly, a dramatic reboot of the teen comedy “Clueless” is currently in development—but the twist is that it will focus on the previously supporting character of Dionne, best friend to the movie’s female lead, Cher.

As you already know, Stacey Dash famously played the fashion-obsessed, super rich, character of Dionne in the 1995 film version and now, that character will be the primary focus. As reported by @shadow_act, the reboot will also take a dramatic approach instead of relying on the comedic formula of the original. Several networks and streaming services are also said to be interested in the reboot, including the CW.

The “Clueless” update is described this way:

The new “Clueless” [is] — “Mean Girls” meets “Riverdale” meets a Lizzo music video —[and] also is set in high school. It is a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend, all in a setting that is uniquely 2020 L.A.?

CBS TV Studios is developing the project, as they retain the rights to the original film. You also may remember that following the success of the film, a 1996 TV series premiered on ABC and then UPN, running for three seasons. That series featured many of the stars of the original film, including Stacey Dash, Donald Faison and Elisa Donovan.

Since the reboot is still in the very early stages, there is no word on casting, specifically if any of the original film’s stars are set to return.

Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
