Denzel Washington’s role as Detective Alonzo Harris in the 2001 film “Training Day,” is one of his most memorable roles. However, it’s best that his actions in the film stay on screen, and not come to life.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, a deputy was recently fired after officials said he reportedly waved his weapons and quoted Denzel Washington’s lines from the 2001 film.
Lake County Deputy Dean Zipes was hired back in December of 2015 and was fired last month after officials said he reportedly rubbed his taser and pistol together in the direction of a convenience store in the presence of a police trainee while quoting lines from the film.
According to an internal affairs report, the incident occurred on February 16th around 4 a.m.
Zipes said he doesn’t know what “sparked” his actions but he was just trying to be funny, and that he had been on edge after his department responded to an armed robbery that night.
He said to investigators, “I am not a rogue, reckless, dangerous, insane guy that slipped through the cracks at the hiring process and somehow got a gun and a badge.”
Zipes has also been accused of allegedly pulling his firearm out in an office setting, using racial slurs and reportedly he, “made a scene in a local Starbucks after not receiving free coffee.”
