Roommates, the 2022 Academy Awards aimed to feature more diversity and capture a younger demographic–and they used some of our favorite Black women to do so. Beyoncé started off the show with a performance of ‘Be Alive,’ while Megan Thee Stallion made the most of her first Academy Awards appearance by taking the stage–however, it was funny ladies Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes that kept the crowd laughing all night!
Beyoncé opened the Academy Awards with a live pre-recorded performance of her Oscar-nominated song, ‘Be Alive’ from the film ‘King Richard,’ that was performed in the Compton, the hometown of Venus and Serena Williams.
After walking the red carpet, Megan Thee Stallion changed clothes and took the stage to perform a verse on the song ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno,’ from the animated film ‘Encanto,’ representing for all the hotties.
This year, the Academy Awards decided to ramp up the girl power, by selecting Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer as hosts for the show. The ladies did double duty all night, by keeping the laughs flowing without missing a beat. By playfully making fun of the nominees and all the fellow actors in attendance, their hosting abilities for the Academy Awards kept things upbeat and fun–which is a definite departure from how the awards typically go.
