On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida to speak about a $20 million plan pertaining to cybersecurity education. While there, he was quite disturbed because the students chose to wear masks during a press conference.
A livestream of the governor’s social media channels captured what he said to the students. ““You do not have to wear those masks. I mean, please take them off,” he requested.
Ron DeSantis added, “Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we’ve gotta stop with this COVID theater.” The governor continued, “So, if you want to wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous,” DeSantis adamantly expressed while shaking his head as he prepared to speak.
As he was speaking, some of the students begin to smile and a few of the students took off his masks.
If you recall,Ron DeSantis banned local schools from requiring students to wear masks back in July of 2021. He then went even further a few weeks later and threatened to withhold the salaries of school officials who enforced mask mandates despite his order.
“If you listen to some of the stuff that’s being percolated around the CDC, there’s a movement to try to impose more restrictions on the American people,” DeSantis said during an unrelated press event, according to the Orlando Sentinel. “And I just want to say in Florida, there will be no lockdowns. There will be no school closures. There will be no restrictions or mandates in the state of Florida.”
School boards that did not comply with Ron DeSantis’ order would have possibly been subject to having state funds withheld. A judge ultimately deemed DeSeantis’ ban “unlawful” and ruled against his mask mandate.
Roomies, what y’all think about this?
