It looks like things may be starting to look up for Britney Spears when it comes to her ongoing fight to be released from her conservatorship. On Wednesday, she appeared in court remotely via telephone and pleaded with the judge to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed from her conservatorship.
According to Variety, an emotional Britney said to Judge Brenda Penny, “I’m here to get rid of my dad and charge him for conservatorship abuse. I want to press charges for abuse on this conservatorship today… all of it. I’m here now today, your honor, to remove my dad altogether.”
Ultimately, Judge Penny granted that she could hire her own lawyer. Britney has hired Mathew Rosengart, who was present during the court hearing and said in Britney’s defense, “This is not working. What is supposed to be at the heart of this has been lost. There is a real question as to why Mr. Spears does not voluntarily step down today.”
Rosengart proceeded to ask, “Is he here for financial reasons? Does anybody really believe that Mr. Spears’ involvement is in the best interest of his daughter?”
Vivian Thoreon, Jamie Spears’ attorney, said that he would not voluntarily resign from Britney’s conservatorship.
During the hearing, Britney spoke in detail about what she’s experienced the past 13 years under her conservatorship and alleged that she had taken psych tests “against my will” during her “Circus” tour and was forced to get blood drawn various times per week.
After the victory in court, Britney took to social media to celebrate being able to hire her own attorney and said, “Coming along, folks…coming along!!!!! New with real representation today…I feel GRATITUDE and BLESSED !!!! Thank you to my fans who are supporting me … You have no idea what it means to me to be supported by such awesome fans !!!! God bless you all.”
