Roommates, last year was a tough one for Hip Hop legend Dr.Dre—between his public divorce from his estranged wife Nicole Young and being in hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm—he has gone through a lot. Now, his estranged father, 73-year-old Theodore Young, is speaking out about their relationship.
In an interview with Page Six, Theodore said, “I haven’t seen Andre since his grandfather died, and I can’t even remember when that was. We have no relationship. My other sons love me. They tell me they love me. But coming from where I come from, most young men like Andre who have a big success don’t give a damn about their dad.”
Theodore said that after he split with Dre’s mother, Verna, Dre’s grandmother took primary care in raising him. He told Page Six, “His grandmother raised him. His mother and grandmother sprinkled a whole lot of salt on me.”
This isn’t the first family member of Dre’s who has spoken out about not having a relationship with him. If you recall, we reported in December that Dre’s oldest daughter, 37-year-old LaTanya Young, opened up about the seriously estranged relationship she has with her father, whom she says she hasn’t seen in almost 20 years. LaTanya says that despite their practically non-existent relationship, she still hopes that they can come together and repair things one day.
She also insisted that she doesn’t want anything from him except a father-daughter relationship, saying, “Money is not what I want. I feel better doing it on my own.” LaTanya further stated that she feels “displaced” by not seeing Dr. Dre. “I really just want to have closure. I just want to be able to spend time with my father.”
As of right now, Dr. Dre hasn’t spoken on the relationship with his daughter or father.
