It has been a long year for many of us, including the celebrities y’all don’t know, but love like they’re family! Megan Thee Stallion is one of these celebs, as 2020 took a drastic turn for her when she found herself a victim to a crime, she says Tory Lanez committed against her. Despite the incident, however, Meg has continued to push through for her Hotties, and is getting ready to release her very first studio album.
For these reasons, and many more, including her lyricism and advocacy for women to take control of their sexuality, Meg has been named GQ Magazine’s rapper of the year. In a lengthy cover story, Meg speaks on everything from the shooting, to her SNL appearance, and the inspiration behind all of her music–including her willingness to speak so openly about sex.
“I feel like a lot of men just get scared when they see women teaching other women to own sex for themselves,” she tells the publication. “Sex is something that it should be good on both ends, but a lot of times it feels like it’s something that men use as a weapon or like a threat. I feel like men think that they own sex, and I feel like it scared them when women own sex.”
We’ve heard Megan drop bar after bar about her skills in the bedroom and the men who can be so easily controlled by them, and says she was inspired by many rappers that can before her including UGK and Three 6 Mafia. Her biggest inspiration, however, was her mother Holly Thomas, who passed away early this year.
She says that despite her mother’s absence, she uses all of the things she taught her to maneuver all of her current situations in life.
“I always just said, ‘I’m going to call my mama. She’ll know what to do,’ she says. “Now I can’t just call my mama, but I’m always thinking, ‘Okay, what would she do?’ and sometimes I don’t know, sometimes I do be bumping my head. I’m only in my 20’s! But she’s there.”
Megan is getting ready to drop her very first album, “Good News” in just a few days, Roomies. Are y’all checkin’ for it?
