#Roommates, earlier this week, CeeLo Green caused an uproar on social media when he made comments about women who are currently in the music industry, specifically hip hop. Following the intense backlash, CeeLo has now offered a clarification and an apology.
CeeLo Green, while promoting his new project, stated his opinions on the current state of women in the music industry. He labeled them as “shameless” and desperate”—and as expected, the backlash was immediate. Well now, taking to his Instagram, he has come forward to set the record straight on what he actually meant.
CeeLo posted the following:
“There seems to be a misunderstanding with a quote taken from an interview I did a few days ago while promoting my new project. …I’m an advocate of artistic freedom and expression. I would never disrespect [female artists] by any means. I acknowledge them all as powerful, beautiful, and influential women…and professionals.
He continued, adding:
I wholeheartedly apologize to each of them for the inconvenience they have been caused due to a snippet of my interview being used as a headline, and in turn creating controversy and disconnect between me and these ladies as well as their fans. Know that I support the everyone who is part of our community & culture. Always have and always will! Much love to all of the female artists who are running the game and handling their business.”
As we previously reported, CeeLo was quoted earlier saying, “A lot of music today is very unfortunate and disappointing on a personal and moral level. There was once a time when we were savvy enough to code certain things. We could express to those that it was meant for the style of language we used. But now music is shameless, it is sheer savagery.”
