Idris Elba’s time spent quarantined after contracting the coronavirus has given him a new outlook on the pandemic.
While speaking with the Associated Press, Idris suggested that people quarantine themselves for a week every year to remember the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time. Remember each other. I really do,” Idris said.
“It’s been about six weeks from the beginning to this point right now for us, where it’s essentially our lives turned around,” he said. “Definitely scary and unsettling and nervous. And I think that’s been like a real collected world experience. You know, everyone’s sort of feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval.”
Idris and his wife Sabrina Elba were both diagnosed with the virus last month.
Idris was one several celebrities to reveal a positive diagnosis early on. Sabrina contracted the virus when she went to quarantine with him.
The couple, who are goodwill ambassadors to the United Nations, have tried to bring awareness to how the virus hurts farmers and food producers in rural areas, according to the Washington Examiner.
The Elbas are helping to initiate a global coronavirus relief fund on behalf of the U.N.’s International Fund for Agricultural Development designated to help prevent economic collapse. The fund will start with $40 million from the IFAC, and it has a goal of raising at least an additional $200 million from government agencies around the world.
