A man has passed away after fatally being struck by a train while holding his daughter. Thankfully his daughter survived and only suffered injuries.
According to Pix11, authorities said the man jumped in front of an oncoming Manhattan-bound 4 train while holding his 5-year-old daughter. The unfortunate incident occurred at the Kingsbridge Road station in the Bronx. The man was pronounced deceased on the scene, but thankfully his little girl survived.
CBS New York reports that cell phone footage showed passengers on the platform helping to pull the young girl from under the train and on to the platform. Witnesses say the train slowed down, but it couldn’t stop in time.
Jennifer Hub, a witness at the scene said, “There was a man who in a heroic effort went down in the front of the tracks to see if the little girl was OK and he got her out and brought her up to us. And thank God above she is alright.”
Police are unsure why the man jumped in front of the train. The young girl reportedly suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital where she was met by her mother. She is expected to be okay.
The incident caused 4-train service to be suspended between Burnside and Woodlawn Avenues.
MTA released a statement and said, “This is a tragedy and our thoughts are with the family members as well as with our train operator — this is a traumatic event for everyone involved.”
We are sending our prayers to the family affected by this tragedy.
