If you use Kim Kardashian’s image to sell knockoffs, be prepared to pay up. That’s the message that’s coming across loud and clear after Kim’s latest victory in court over fast fashion retailer Missguided using her likeness to sell its merchandise.
It’s no secret that practically anything Kim wears gets duplicated by dozens of fast fashion retailers at record speed—but while she may not be able to control that, she definitely has a say in which companies can use her image to booster sales.
According to @TMZ, Kim scored a major win in court recently when she was awarded $2.7 million in damages and an additional $60,000 in attorney’s fees in her lawsuit against Missguided dating back to February of this year.
The judge in the case clearly was not her for Missguided’s shenanigans, stating this in their ruling:
“Missguided has repeatedly used Kardashian’s name and likeness without permission on its social media platforms to promote the sale of its clothing.”
During the proceedings, it was also pointed out that Missguided’s website has entire pages dedicated to selling and knocking off dresses inspired by those worn by Kim. The company was also guilty of using photos of Kim to make it seem to customers that she’s associated with the Missguided brand.
In a strange twist, Missguided never even responded to Kim’s lawsuit, so they basically handed her the money by default. The final term of the ruling states that Missguided is permanently forbidden from using any Kim Kardashian trademarks in affiliation with their merchandise.
Roommates, do you think this will stop other retailers from knocking off Kim?
