It’s another day, and another trade has been made in the NBA. Fans can now look forward to Kawhi Leonard and DeMar DeRozan swapping teams.
According to ESPN, on Wednesday the San Antonio Spurs announced that they have traded Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a protected 2019 first round pick.
League sources revealed that Toronto and San Antonio have been in talks about the trade for the past two weeks. They also revealed that DeRozan met with Toronto officials in Las Vegas during summer league and he believed that he wouldn’t be traded.
Nonetheless, DeRozan didn’t seem too happy about the trade. He said in his Instagram story, “Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can’t trust em. Ain’t no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing… Soon you’ll understand… Don’t disturb…”
The Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said that he has spoken with both Leonard and Green following the trade, and plans to talk with DeRozan.
He also said he’s looking forward to working with both Leonard and DeRozan at Team USA minicamp next week.
