This morning, Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network confirmed that #Giants wide receiver #VictorCruz has been released from the team.
Despite suffering back to back torn patellar tendon and calf injuries, he still contributed 39 catches for 586 yards and a touchdown this past season. This move saves the team from reaching a $10 million salary cap as Cruz would have been paid $7.4 million for the upcoming season.
However, according to NFL.Com, Jones said that the closer Cruz gets to making a full recovery he could return to the field. There may be a chance that they’ll bring him back at a lower salary.
Via NFL.Com:
“An undrafted free agent out of UMass, Cruz was one of the few players to be re-signed by the team in the Jerry Reese era. His five-year, $45 million extension signed back in 2013 was a significant move for the notoriously thrifty Giants at the time. Cruz is currently 10th on the franchise’s all-time receiving yards list with 4,549 yards and is 17th in touchdowns, with 25.”
