Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ quickly became the black girl anthem heard around the world. If you didn’t know, Mike Will Made It along with Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd helped her write it! In an interview with The New Yorker, Mike Will broke it down and revealed who wrote what. Swae Lee wrote “Okay, ladies, now let’s get in formation,” and Slim wrote one of the most epic parts of the song.
His lyric started out as, “If you fuck me good, I’ll take your ass to Margiela.” Mike Will says that once they shared the lyrics with Bey, she changed “Margiela” to “Red Lobster” and the rest was history! To be clear, Mike Will says that even though ‘Formation’ was a “collaborative effort between me, Pluss, Sremm, and her,” he insists that Beyoncé “wrote both of her verses and she got inspired by what Jxmmi said.”
I hope that there aren’t anymypeooel sleeping on Rae Sremmurd!! These guys know their hits!
