San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick received a lot of backlash from fans for his decision to not vote during the presidential election. Many couldn’t understand how he was fighting for better treatment for minorities, but didn’t vote in one of the biggest elections of our time. Colin opened up to reporters after Sundays game against the Cardinals about why he choose to sit this election out.
According to CSN, he said,
“I think it would be hypocritical of me to vote. I’d said from the beginning I was against oppression, I was against a system of oppression. I’m not going to show support for that system. And, to me, the oppressor isn’t going to allow you to vote your way out of your oppression.”
Kaepernick was later asked if Trump being elected as our next president called for more attention to his cause.
”I think everybody should feel the urgency to make sure that what we’re doing is the right thing, building things the right way in order to be able to protect ourselves from what comes in front of us,” Kaepernick said.
