When Empire debuted, it stole the limelight, but y’all knew that. Did y’all know how bad their record sales are though?
So apparently, when Empire’s soundtrack was first released, more than 110k copies were sold within the first week. (That’s more than some mainstream artists sell).
Pretty successful right? Yes, until the next seasons soundtrack dropped –literally! The next soundtrack only pulled in 39k in the first week.
Yikes!
That’s not the end-stop. They released yet another soundtrack, despite the previous sales, and only sold 15k in the first week.
The question then becomes whether or not the soundtrack sales reflect the shows survival?
Surprisingly not. According to tvseriesfinale, their last season, Fox NEEDED certain ratings and Empire delivered. The show actually “became the highest-rated show on broadcast television in the coveted 18-49 demographic.”
We wonder where the disconnect comes into play!
