Here’s What We Know About Chris Brown’s Dad
According to PEOPLE, Clinton Brown and Joyce Hawkins divorced when Chris was seven years old. By then, the pair had two children — Chris and his older sister, who is publicly known as “Tootie.”
Clinton reportedly worked as a correctional officer in Virginia. Additionally, Chris’ father worked at a gas station where Brown ultimately discovered.
After his parent’s divorce, Hawkins reportedly remarried. Chris would later publicly open up about his stepfather’s alleged abuse of his mother.
“He used to hit my mom,” Chris reportedly revealed in 2007, per Today. “He made me terrified all the time… I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day,’ I hate him to this day.”
After Chris found himself in similar circumstances after assaulting Rihanna in 2009, Clinton remained in his corner.
“Hopefully, he will get past it,” Clinton reportedly told PEOPLE. “We all have our shortcomings. We all trip. I think he’s [going to] grow as an individual. He’s going to take from this situation and learn from it.”
That same year, Clinton told the outlet that he “couldn’t be more proud” of his son.
“He’s the light of my life,” he reportedly added.
According to Black America Web, Chris shared a now-deleted photo of his father on Instagram in 2020. At the time, he reportedly referred to Clinton as his “twin.”
“Young SNIPER me and my dad. my dark skin TWIN,” he reportedly wrote at the time.
