Eric Benét recently took a stroll in New Orleans and made an interesting observation about the city’s energy.
The singer took to TikTok on July 5 to share that the Crescent City makes him feel like an enslaved man who gained his freedom.

Eric Benét Says New Orleans Makes Him “Feel Like A Free Slave”
The R&B crooner is in NOLA to hit the stage at Essence Festival 2024. During some downtime, he sported a yellow hat, wife beater, and pearl necklace as he walked through a local neighborhood. As Eric looked around the area, he said, “Not to make light of a devastating history of my people…” He then panned the camera to what appeared to be antebellum homes that lined the streets. “But something about walking around in New Orleans make me feel like a fr……a free slave,” he stated. “I am free,” he quipped with an African accent.

@jaylittlelisa said, “Boy, he ain’t lie. It’s part of GA that make me feel like that too…even worse when you pass a plantation property that still has old slave quarters on it. And they be like, ‘why is everything about race!! Slavery was 400 years ago!’ Oh yeah, knock that s*** down off your property then, including that plantation home.”
Roomie @anais_hayden shared that she feels spiritual energy in New Orleans, writing, “I get what he’s saying….then I feel a strong presence of voodoo, witchcraft, cemeteries and ghosts everywhere.”
