Earlier this year Nate Parker made headlines as he received outstanding reviews for his film “A Birth of a Nation”, which is about Nat Turner’s 1831 slave rebellion.
Back in January the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival setting records as Fox Searchlight’s Studio paid a total of $17.5 million for the films distribution rights.
Nate Parker, the writer, director and star of the film talked about his motivation behind the film. He said, “Far too often, as a black actor…you receive a hundred scripts in a year, and two of them you feel represent the experience of the black male with strength and power and integrity.”
He continued, “And I felt the need to, instead of complaining about that, to find a way to change it with my art. So I started writing. I wrote several scripts, but Nat Turner and his life was one that I wanted to really delve into as a writer.”
There is no doubt that this film is highly anticipated and it will finally hit theaters on October 7th.
