Charlamagne Tha God Shares A Message For Mo’Nique
During her interview with Sharpe, the comedian reflected on ‘The Breakfast Club’ host crowning her “Donkey of the Day” in 2018. At the time, Mo’Nique was calling for the public to boycott Netflix amid her suing the company for racial and gender bias, per HotNewHipHop.
“People were having call-ins when I said, ‘This is not right.’ I was ‘Donkey of the Day.’ Remember that? The Breakfast Nubs called me the ‘Donkey of the Day.’ That’s what they said,” she told Sharpe. “And they had a whole call-in about how I was the ‘Donkey of the Day.’ But you didn’t do the same thing when you found out we settled. Now, all of a sudden, don’t nobody know what a settlement is.”
On the morning of February 8, Charlamagne took to the airwaves to address Mo’Nique’s statements.
“Now, if you remember, Mo’Nique back in the day called for a boycott of Netflix [after] they lowballed her. Mo’Nique said Netflix offered her half a million dollars for a comedy special, and she pointed out Amy Schumer was offered 11 million — Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock, 20 million.”
Charlamagne went on to admit that he donned Mo’Nique as “Donkey of the Day” because he believed the comedian wasn’t on the same “level” as Chris, Dave, and Amy. He then went on to recall when Mo’Nique visited the radio show after his comments and urged him to be more conscious of his public statements.
“Mo’Nique, you were right,” he told listeners Thursday morning. “I had no business speaking on your business — there’s absolutely a pay discrepancy for Black women… When you see a company as big as Netflix with all the money Netflix has, they could have dragged this out [but] they settled with Mo’Nique and still put out a Mo’Nique comedy special.”
