Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams File An Appeal on “Blurred Lines” Verdict

Welp! Its looking like Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams will soon be heading back to court. If you guys can remember back in 2014 when the family of the late Marvin Gaye sued the two for ripping off his classic 1977 hit “Got to Give it Up” in their 2013 hit single “Blurred Lines”.

In the end the jury ruled for them to pay the family $7.3 million in back royalties but it was then reduced to $5.3 million as well as half of future royalties from the song. Recently the deposition footage of Pharrell and Robin from 2014 showed that they were not here for the drama, so it’s no surprise the two filed for an appeal.

The lawyer for the Gaye family released a statement saying, “We remain confident that the appeal will have no merit, and when it fails, the Thicke / Williams camp will find themselves faced with the same judgment they’re facing today. Meanwhile, the Gaye family’s entitlement to half of the ‘Blurred Lines’ royalties will have continued to grow over time. What I’m saying is that this appeal only delays the inevitable — we aren’t going anywhere.”

This is looking far from over, and it may get a little messy.
