Sixteen-year-old LeAnna Roberts is preparing to graduate summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama. According to Tuscaloosa News, Roberts will walk the stage on Saturday, May 6, at the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The 16-year-old recently spoke exclusively with Tuscaloosa News and shared her excitement for the upcoming ceremony.
“I’m super-excited, it has not really sunk in yet, but I’m very excited. My family of course, they’re all super-proud of me and will be coming to support.”
The university shared the news on April 25 via a report where Roberts expressed her favorite things about her time at UA.
“My favorite thing about Alabama is although I am 16 years old, I have always been treated like a regular student by my peers and professors… I had a lot of great experiences at UA and gratefully my support system is not just within my own family but includes the people at UA as well.”

The 16-Year-Old Shared Her Future Plans

Roberts has accomplished a remarkable feat. However, her journey will not end there.
“I am currently taking graduate level courses and will continue over the summer with plans to graduate with an MBA degree next May,” the 16-year-old told UA.
Additionally, Roberts is also beginning the application process to enter medical school.
“I am currently preparing to take the Medical College Admission Test next month so I can start the application process for medical schools. I’m looking into medical schools in the southeast but will be applying to programs throughout the country.”
Roberts hopes her MBA degree will enable her to become a surgeon and “close the gaps in health care for so many, both nationally and internationally.”
The 16-year-old further explained her goal to Tuscaloosa News.
“My overall goal is just to improve healthcare disparities and inequities that we see, especially with underserved communities. My grandparents are from rural Alabama. So I’ve been able to witness firsthand since I was a younger child just how that can affect one’s health. So being able to impact that is my long-term goal as a physician.”

More Details About The 16-Year-Old's Educational Background

According to Tuscaloosa News, Roberts began studying at the University of Alabama at the age of 15. Before this, she earned her associate’s degree from Shelton State Community College.
Through dual enrollment, Roberts was able to graduate from Shelton State Community College and her high school, Central High School, on the same day.
Additionally, the 16-year-old explained that she has never let her young age deter her from accomplishing her goals. Furthermore, she encourages other high school students interested in dual enrollment to “go for it” and discover the benefits for themselves.
“I will just say go for it. (Dual enrollment) gives you a great insight into what college courses look like. And so I think it’s a great experience that everyone could benefit from.”
