UPDATE: Deion Patterson, 24, Charged With Murder & Aggravated Assault In Midtown Atlanta Shooting

According to NBC News, Patterson has been charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault.

The 24-year-old did not attend his scheduled court appearance on Thursday and waived his right to see a judge within 24 hours of his arrest.

According to the outlet, Patterson’s next court date has yet to be scheduled.

Additionally, FOX 5 Atlanta has reported that the 24-year-old has been booked into Fulton County Rice Street Jail. He is reportedly being held in the jail’s medical observation unit.

Furthermore, Patterson is being held without bond, according to AP News.

The suspect’s lawyer, Shawn Hoover, shared an emailed statement with the outlet.

“He is a veteran and suffers from apparent mental health issues. My team is investigating the details and circumstances of the charges to provide him with zealous, effective, and timely representation.”

The identity of the woman who sustained fatal injuries from the shooting was recently released, as reported by The Shade Room.

Amy St. Pierre was a CDC worker pronounced dead at the scene. According to AP News, St. Pierre leaves behind a husband and two young children.

According to the outlet, Patterson also shot Alesha Hollinger in the face, Georgette Whitow in the arm, and both Lisa Glynn and Jazzmin Daniel in the abdomen.

The four women have reportedly remained hospitalized at Grady Memorial Hospital, with three of them in an intensive care unit.

Dr. Robert Jansen, a chief medical officer at the hospital, told the outlet that he has been able to speak with two of the four women. Additionally, both expressed that the shooting was a “horrific event and the fact that they were in a health care facility just makes it worse.”

“Physically, they all have a ways to go. I think psychologically and mentally, we have to also remember that, the impact on them and their families. You know, you can’t underestimate how traumatic this is. And they have a long way to go.”

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer explained that technology played a huge role in tracking Patterson, who led authorities on an eight-hour search following the shooting Wednesday afternoon.

“We had a lot of clues, real-time center and Flock, and had a pretty good instinct on where he was.”

Furthermore, the police chief explained that a 911 dispatcher received a phone call they suspected to be from the gunman. From there, a team of officials was able to track down the suspect’s location.

A plainclothes officer later made contact with the suspect at the Waterford Place condo complex, and uniformed officers arrested the 24-year-old.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Patterson arrived at the Northside Hospital facility for an appointment Wednesday afternoon. The 24-year-old reportedly became enraged and fired multiple shots inside a waiting room on the 11th floor.

According to the suspect’s mother, his actions were prompted due to his receiving “messed up medication” from the VA.

“The damn VA gave him some messed up medication. And all he wanted was an Ativan.”

Additionally, it was revealed, per CNN, that Patterson was a former coastguardsman, discharged from service in January.

“[Patterson] entered the Coast Guard in July 2018 and last served as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class. He was discharged from active duty in January 2023.”

After the shooting, Patterson reportedly fled the midtown Atlanta area, leading the investigation to Cobb County, where he was later apprehended.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the “GBI, FBI, Secret Service, Georgia Tech police officers, Cobb County Police, Atlanta Public Schools Police” participated in the search for Patterson.

According to Gun Violence Archive, the mass shooting is among 200 others in the U.S. since the year began.
