Adriana Sylmetaj, a 23-year-old pregnant woman, and her unborn child died in a crash caused by her partner Adem Nikeziq who was ‘drunk driving’ a Dodge Challenger at over 100 mph in Staten Island, authorities said.
The Albanian couple’s car collided with a utility pole, resulting in Sylmetaj being fatally thrown from the vehicle and the car breaking into three pieces. The accident occurred on Hylan Boulevard around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, according to police, NY Post reports.

Nikeziq, 30, now faces charges including manslaughter, negligent homicide, reckless endangerment, and DWI after showing signs of driving under the influence, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Adem Nikeziq was transported to Staten Island University North Hospital after police observed signs of intoxication, according to a spokesman.
Adriana Sylmetaj Was Excited To Be A Mother, Brother Says
A registry at Buy Buy Baby under the names of Nikeziq and Sylmetaj indicates they were expecting a baby girl on April 12th. Medical professionals unfortunately could not save the unborn child after the car accident.
“She was excited when she learned she was going to be a mother. It was something new to her. She couldn’t wait to see the baby born,” her brother, Al Sylmetaj, told the Daily News.
“They were thinking on names but I don’t think they came to any decision. … They were planning on a baby shower.”
Adriana Sylmetaj was originally from Brooklyn but had graduated from New Dorp High School in Staten Island and was previously enrolled at College of Staten Island, per her Facebook page. Her employment history includes working at Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital South and NYU Langone Health, as stated in her profile.
