Nicki Minaj had the internet in shambles last week when she called out the Grammys for moving her hit ‘Super Freaky Girl’ from the rap category to pop, and it looks like her concerns may have gotten their attention—but this doesn’t seem to be the solution she’s looking for.
According to a recent report from Variety, Grammy voters who’ve received their ballots reportedly reveal that Nicki is in contention in the Best Rap Performance category for another song of hers. The revelation came days after she shared concern over being nominated in the Grammys pop category.
The song in consideration for Best Rap Performance is ‘Do We Have a Problem,’ which features Lil Baby. The single dropped in February and landed on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart at number 2. Variety also reports she will make several more appearances on the rap part of the Grammy ballot for collaborative songs.
Coi Leray’s song featuring Nicki, ‘Blick Blick’ is also on the ballot for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. Yung Bleu’s song, ‘Love In The Way,’ in which she is also featured, is also listed among the eligible songs for Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Will Nicki Minaj And Latto Patch Things Up?
Although the full Grammy nominations haven’t officially dropped, Nicki’s newfound beef with Latto has many wondering if there will ever be unity between the rappers. As we previously reported on October 13th, the Queens native hopped on live for seventeen minutes, airing out her frustration about the category change while taking shots at Latto for her song, ‘Big Energy,’ featured in the rap category.
Unfortunately, the two began a nasty exchange that played out on Twitter. Altogether, Nicki appears eight times on the ballot. Once in the pop category, twice in the music video, and five times in the rap category.
Last night on live, Nicki also discussed why she thought Grammy voters have leaked they suddenly considered her in more rap categories according to reports. Onika said she felt like the awards show had “gaslit” her fans by not addressing why “Super Freaky Girl” was categorized as a pop song.
They said “well, we’re not going to respond to why they move ‘Super Freaky Girl’ into the pop category, we’re just going to tell BLACK people in the hip hop culture that Nick is nominated in the rap category.”
She also clarified that she is NOT nominated and these are simply submissions from her record label.
The official Grammy nominations will be announced on Tuesday, November 15th. Roommates, will you be tuning in to see if Nicki grabs her first Grammy on February 5th?
