Miracles do indeed happen every day—and an Indian woman in her 70s has just proved it! The 74-year-old woman recently gave birth to not one, but two babies—twin girls to be exact—after years of trying.
As reported by @WSBTV, 74-year-old Mangayamma Yaramati of southern Indian gave birth earlier this month to a healthy set of twin girls via in vitro fertilization. After the birth, she provided doctors with her birth certificate where they were able to accurately confirm her age. Yaramati and her husband, 82-year-old Sitarama Rajarao, had never had any children during their 57-year marriage…until now.
The twin girls were delivered via cesarean section by a team of four doctors in a hospital located in Andhra Pradesh. While the doctors who delivered the babies believe that Yaramati is the oldest person to give birth, there is not factual documentation to confirm it.
Sankkayala Uma Shankar, the doctor who delivered the babies, described the surgery to the press, saying:
“The surgery went smoothly. Both mother and the infants are healthy and have no complications whatsoever. However, the mother has been taken to (the) intensive care unit to come out of the stress she had undergone for the last few hours.”
Since Yaramati had gone already gone through menopause, a donor’s egg was fertilized with Rajarao’s sperm and then implanted inside her. When asked about their advanced age, specifically who would care for their children if they were to suffer sickness or death. Rajarao said:
“Nothing is in our hands. Whatever should happen will happen. It is all in the hands of God.”
Yaramati also admitted that she and her husband had been ridiculed in their village for years because they didn’t have children, but now that has changed:
“We tried many times and saw numerous doctors, so this is the happiest time of my life.”
Well congrats to the happy couple and the healthy babies!
Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
